Tomasz Koper – sinologist, Chinese language translator and interpreter
I am currently a Doctoral Candidate at the Faculty of Sinology, Department of Oriental Studies of Warsaw University, where I have previously obtained an M.A. degree. For a year I studied Chinese at Beijing Normal University (北京师范大学). During my M.A. I broadened my extracurricular knowledge in the fields of economics and law through courses offered by the Warsaw University.
I have several years of experience in translation and interpretation both in Chinese and English. Apart from major projects, like the translation of DK Eyewitness Guide to China (Hachette-Livre Polska Publishing House), I translated various documents, interpreted at negotiations, business trips, during visits of Chinese guests in Poland etc. Even before graduating with an M.A. degree, I was a full-time translator and interpreter for Eura Group Ltd., a Polish-Chinese construction company, where my responsibilities included facilitating communication between Chinese workers and company managers as well as day-to-day administrative duties.
My research interests in the Faculty of Sinology include Chinese legal history (M.A. dissertation topic: “Law and Family During the Tang: The Image of Family in Tang Dynasty (618-907) Law”). Therefore, I am familiar with the language and subject of law.
